A next-generation wastewater treatment system developed by a startup incubated in IIT Madras has been installed in two industrial units in Erode and Perundurai.

The technology saves costs, recovers energy from the waste, and reduces carbon emission, stated a press release. JSP Enviro’s new technology, called Bio-Electrochemical Anaerobic Digestor System, integrates electrodes with microbial treatment, increasing the rate of organic waste degradation and recovering electricity from the waste, according to V.T. Fidal Kumar, co-founder, JSP Enviro.

Each installation can treat 100 cubic metres of effluent per day and avoids about 80 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission annually, according to Priyadarshini Mani, co-founder and CEO.

The company was currently working with textile and dyeing clusters in the SIPCOT industrial regions of Perundurai and Erode while also planning to expand into sectors like food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals, the release added.
