Home for the aged food poisoning; death toll rises to five

Death toll in the Tenkasi home for the aged food poisoning case rose to five on Tuesday.

After consuming food served to them on last Wednesday (June 11), some of the 59 inmates of the Annai Nalvaazhvu Trust Home for the aged at Sundarapandiapuram in Tenkasi district were admitted to the Tenkasi Government Hospital for suspected food poisoning.

While Shankar Ganesh, 42, of Shencottai died on Wednesday night, Ambika, 45, of Shencottai and S. Murugammal, 45, of Chokkampatti also succumbed to food poisoning on Thursday.

After being admitted to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, 70-year-old Lakshmi died on last Friday even as 12 more inmates of the home were undergoing treatment.

As Muppidathi, 50, died on Tuesday, the death toll rose to 5 and 11 are under treatment at TVMCH including three in the intensive care unit.
