Virudhunagar district police have seized 2484 kg of banned tobacco goods and arrested six persons.
The police also seized ₹29.11 lakh, an autorickshaw, two cars and 10 mobile phones.
A statement said that during a vehicle check held by a team of police in Tiruchuli, the police intercepted an autorickshaw.
The police found several bags of gutka being smuggled in it and arrested Rajabhoopathi of North Natham and Rajagopal of Bommanaickenpatti.
Further interrogation revealed that Annamalai of Thoppulakkarai, Murugesan of Sembatti and Karukuvel and Kanagalingam of Thoothukudi district were involved in the smuggling.
A total of 2483.62 kg of gutka were seized from them
