More than ₹80 lakh worth ganja seized in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli

In a major catch, the Nakkapalli police arrested four individuals who were allegedly trying to transport 840 kg of ganja in Anakapalli district to Karnataka on Wednesday (July 9, 2025.)

Though the seized ganja was procured for about ₹42 lakh in Odisha, it is estimated to be worth ₹80 lakh in some Northern States, as per the police.

The arrested were identified as P. Arjuna Rao (32), of Rolugunta mandal, K. Divakar (23) of Golugonda mandal, V. Suresh (23) from Chintapalli, ASR district and Y. Ramana (60) of Nakkapalli mandal.

Addressing a press conference at Anakapalli, Superintendent of Police, Tuhin Sinha said that a person named S. Arjun from Chintapalli mandal in ASR district along with his associates K. Nagaraju, P. Arjuna Rao and V. Suresh had procured the ganja from Odisha. They packed the 840 kg of ganja in 20 bags, and transported the ganja in a vehicle from Odisha till Downuru via Darakonda and Chintapalli.

To ensure they do not get caught by the police teams at a check posts, the smugglers carried the ganja through the forest area to some extent. After crossing the check posts, they reloaded the ganja into the vehicle and continued their journey through Narsipatnam and Tallapalem, enroute Karnataka.

Based on credible information, Nakkapalli Inspector of Police, K. Kumara Swamy and team conducted vehicle checks at Vedullapalem Junction and busted ganja case. The SP said manhunt has been launched to arrest a few more accused involved in the case.
