The district enforcement squad of the Local Self-Government department (LSGD) has seized 348 kg of banned plastic products from various commercial establishments in Ambalappuzha North and Devikulangara grama panchayats.
The squad confiscated 218 kg of prohibited plastic materials from Ambalappuzha North on Thursday. Officials said that fines totalling ₹30,000 had been imposed on violators.
Notice issued
In another inspection carried out in Devikulangara, 130 kg of banned single-use plastic products were seized. The raid targeted business establishments operating within the panchayat’s jurisdiction. The squad recommended imposing a fine of ₹13,000 on three establishments for violations. Notices were issued to six of the 15 shops inspected.
Prohibited plastic items, including straws, cups and plastic-coated banana leaves, were confiscated during the raids.
Compliance
Officials said that inspections would continue in different parts of the district in the coming days. Commercial establishments would be checked again to ensure compliance with the instructions issued by the squad, said an official.
The inspection in Ambalappuzha North was led by internal vigilance officer P.P. Udayasimhan, while the raid in Devikulangara was led by joint block development officer Bindu V. Nair.
