The Centre has notified 71 panchayats of Dakshina Kannada and 64 panchayats in Udupi district as free from Tuberculosis.
Dakshina Kannada District Tuberculosis Control Officer M.P. Khathija Dilshad told The Hindu that a panchayat is notified to be free of Tuberculosis by taking into consideration six different yardsticks. It includes panchayat reporting less than 1 TB case, and doing more than 30 tests, for every 1000 population of the village. Success rate of treatment being more than 85% is the third yardstick.
