Association wants Rajapalayam railway station to be upgraded as secondary terminal

The Rajapalayam Rail Users’ Association has demanded that Rajapalayam railway station be upgraded as secondary terminal for train services on Madurai-Sengottai section.

A resolution to this effect was passed at the fifth general body meeting of the association held on Sunday. Association president Ramakrishnan, presided over the meeting in the presence of its secretary, Vijay and treasurer, Jegath Sankar.

The association demanded that the shelter be provided for the full length of the first platform in the railway station. Similarly, the development works under Amrit Bharat Scheme in the railway station should be expedited and retiring room facility be provided.

Construction work for Sholapuram railway station should be commenced soon and a MEMU rail workshop should be set up at Madurai railway junction. Advance ticket booking facility should be provided at Rajapalayam railway station from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m., the statement added.

The association sought several train services which benefit rail users of Rajapalayam, including operation of Silambu Express daily, new overnight express train between Kollam and Erode connecting Rajapalayam with Coimbatore and Tiruppur; a new daily express train to Bengaluru via Rajapalayam.

The association also wanted to augment the coaches in Mayiladurai-Sengottai express to 20 coaches with ticket reservation facility and to restore the departure time of Pothigai Express at Chennai to 8.50 p.m.

Tambaram-Tenkasi day-time special train service should be resumed. Convenient link should be provided for Train number 56771 Madurai-Sengottai passenger with Mysuru-Thoothukudi Express.
