Industries in Visakhapatnam celebrated the 77th Republic Day with patriotic fervour on Monday. Amidst the unfurling of the tricolour, industry leaders from the private and public sector reflected on the city’s transition from an industrial hub to a global economic player, emphasising sustainability and indigenous innovation.
At the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL), CMD (additional charge) Manish Raj Gupta said, “RINL-VSP achieved 94% Blast Furnace capacity utilisation in December 2025.”
The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) and Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) marked the day with disciplined ceremonial parades.
VPA chairman M. Angamuthu said, “We targeted to achieve 90MMT cargo handling this year, and have set a target of reaching 100MMT in 2027. The ongoing projects of the port in the present year are valued at around ₹1,500 crores.” He added to boost local infrastructure ₹300 crore is being funded in joint projects with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Indian Railways.
HSL CMD Commodore Girideep Singh announced that HSL has emerged as the L1 bidder for the construction of 18 Next Generation Fast patrol vessels for the Indian Coast Guard.
At the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) in Duvvada, development commissioner Muppaala Srinivas said: “The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) reported exports worth ₹1,83,656 crores, 11% higher, than the previous year.”
NTPC Simhadri head Ayaskanta Jena read about the unit’s key achievements and initiatives.
HPCL Visakh Refinery held a ceremony on the importance of energy security and the ongoing modernisation of the refinery.
