A Visakhapatnam youth was detained by Pakistani security forces on Sunday (December 7) on charges of trying to enter Pakistan through the Indo-Pak border near village 17KYD in Khajuwala tehsil of Bikaner district in Rajasthan, said sources on Monday.

The man, identified as Vedam Prashant, an engineering graduate was detained while trying to enter Pakistan to meet a girl over his alleged love interest. Sources said that Pakistan army intelligence had gathered information about him and moved quickly to apprehend him.

Preliminary investigation revealed that was Prashant’s second attempt. The first attempt was in 2017, lacking a visa he crossed into Pakistan through the Karni post in Bikaner with an alleged intention of travelling to Switzerland to meet a woman he had met on social media. He was soon arrested on suspicion of being a spy and was lodged in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Central Jail for illegal entry. Till 2021, he was in Pakistan’s custody, after which he was handed over to the Indian Border Security Force at the Attari-Wagah border on May 31, 2021 and brought back to Visakhapatnam.

Again on December 7, 2025 he was detained by the Pakistan security agencies near the international border in Bikaner, Rajasthan, for allegedly trying to enter Pakistan for the second time to meet a different woman in Pakistan.

Sources said that he had fallen in love with another woman who was imprisoned in another cell in a Pakistan jail, where he was earlier detained. He is believed to have told the investigating agencies that he was going back to Pakistan to meet her.

Sources said: “His family in Visakhapatnam informed the Pakistan security forces that Prashant was suffering from mental health issues. His brother, and relatives have travelled to Bikaner to talk to the Indo-Pak security forces for a final decision on Prashant, while he undergoes questioning by various intelligence agencies.”
