Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath said he focused on addressing grievances of people aired during the Praja Seva programme on Saturday, rather than creating a row over the singing of two stanzas of the national song Vande Mataram.
At the start of the programme related to Mangaluru city, only two stanzas of the national song were sung as per the directions of the State government. Then a person in the programme spoke aloud, asking to sing the full six stanzas of the national song. Mr. Kamath waved his hand to the person and indicated to him to stay quiet. Then the State song was sung.
As the MLA started to hear the grievances, the person came to Mr. Kamath and asked the reason for not singing the full national song. “The issue (State government’s order) has reached the court and orders were awaited. The song will be sung in full. I am here to hear grievances and I did not want to create any row,” he told the person.
