With the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in force for the Assembly election, EMRI Green Health Services, the private firm operating the 108 ambulance service, has issued guidelines for its staff in the district to follow during the election period.
In a circular, the firm said ambulances should carry only medical equipment, medicines and essential documents, and no other items should be kept inside the vehicle. Only authorised personnel, including EMRI and government health staff, government officials, police personnel and election observers, will be permitted to inspect ambulances or verify documents.
Staff have been instructed to ensure that patients or their attendants do not carry election-related or campaign materials in ambulances. Details of cash and belongings carried by them must be recorded and handed over at the hospital, while belongings of unidentified patients should be handed over to the police or health officials.
The circular said ambulance staff should not engage in political discussions or support any political party. No campaign materials, symbols or stickers should be displayed inside or outside the vehicle, and ambulances should not be used for demonstrations or events during the election period.
Further, staff have been directed not to accept gifts or food items and to avoid parking vehicles near places where campaign materials are present. Any inspection of ambulances during non-emergency periods should be carried out only under police supervision.
The organisation warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against those violating the guidelines.
