A 19-year-old medical student was killed and her father was injured in a hit-and-run road accident in Hayathnagar on Monday.
According to the police, Yamsani Pandu, 50, and his daughter Yamsani Aishwarya, 19, a second-year MBBS student studying in Mahbubnagar, were crossing the road near RTC Colony at around 7 a.m. Aishwarya was to board a bus to travel to her college when a car, bearing registration number TS 07 KG 9006, came at high speed from the LB Nagar side and hit them.
The car, allegedly driven rashly and negligently, did not stop after the collision and the driver fled the scene.
“Aishwarya suffered a severe head injury and died on the spot, while Pandu sustained a fracture to his left leg. He is undergoing treatment at a private hospital,” said an officer from the Hayathnagar Police.
Based on a complaint lodged by Mr. Pandu’s elder brother, Soma Venkatesham, the police have registered a case against the unknown driver. Efforts are on to identify the vehicle user and trace the driver involved in the accident.
