Over 880 street lights to be installed in Salem Corporation, says Minister

Transport Minister A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban, on Monday (September 28, 2026), stated that as many as 883 street lights will be installed in the four zones of Salem Corporation.

The Minister made a surprise visit to various wards in the Ammapet zone on Sunday night (September 27, 2026) and found street lights not functioning properly and a lack of street lights in a few places. The residents also sought the Minister’s help to obtain street light facilities. The Minister immediately contacted the Corporation Commissioner, Lalitaditya Neelam, from the spot and provided instructions to install new street lights.

In a release, the Minister said areas that lack street lights will be identified in the 60 wards of the Corporation. Under the general fund of ₹77.05 lakh, a total of 883 street lights will be installed, including 176 street lights in the Ammapet zone, 244 in the Sooramangalam zone, 221 in the Hasthampatti zone, and 242 in the Kondalampatti zone. Work orders have been issued and instructions given to the contractors to complete these works in the next 15 days, he added.
