Millets, despite being superfoods, have not been adopted by the people, the way they should have been, due to cultural habits, misinformation and challenges in preparation. Many think that soaking, fermenting, and long cooking are time consuming, said Sai Srinivas Vavilala and Srinivas Garimella, co-founders of HETC Foods Private Ltd.

HETC Foods, Hyderabad, has launched a sprouted millet brand ‘Navdhan’ to address these problems after considerable research, the co-founders said.

Interacting with the media persons, here, on Monday (22 December, 2025), they said that millets, despite being high in proteins and minerals and the presence of phytochemicals, which aid in correction of lifestyle disorders and prevention of ailment, are yet to be adopted by the people. We are planning to organise seminars to promote the consumption of millets the right way, they added.

Though those living in tribal and remote rural areas use millets, they are also not sure as the time for which the millets have to be soaked, the type of water to be used and the best temperature for soaking. This is coming in the way of their deriving the maximum benefit out of the consumption of millets, the co-founders said.

HETC has tested all the parameters in the laboratory and brought out ‘Navdhan’, the ready to use millet powders, eliminating the need for soaking, fermenting, and long cooking, making millets practical for everyday life, they added.
