The police on Wednesday (September 23, 2026) arrested a self-styled godman on charge of sexually assaulting a woman under the pretext of resolving marital disputes at Thamarassery in the district.
The accused is Anwar Sadath, a resident of Puthuppadi. According to the police, the alleged incident occurred when the woman visited the accused along with her husband seeking a remedy for their marital discord.
Police sources said Anwar Sadath was a repeat offender and had previously been arrested in connection with a sexual assault case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Further investigation is under way, they said.
