The Kerala High Court has closed a petition filed by the producers of the film JSK – Janaki Vs State of Kerala against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after taking note of the fact that the board had issued it a U/A certificate on July 11.

The movie is set to be released in theatres on July 17. The CBFC had raised objections about the name Janaki (which is another name for Goddess Sita) in the title and as the name of the protagonist. It subsequently refrained from issuing the censor certificate for the film, saying that the character by name Janaki was being shown as subjected to rape and many unpleasant experiences, and was also being cross-examined by a lawyer from another religion, who posed to her many ‘objectionable’ questions, to name a few instances.

Closing the petition, the court observed on Wednesday that the prime grievance of the petitioner company now stood redressed, as it had submitted a modified version of the film, after which the CBFC issued a censor certificate. The usage of the teaser with the old name shall not in any manner adversely affect the petitioner legally and no such claim would be maintainable against it, it added.
