Unlike MLAs who poured their complaints against the style of functioning of Ministers in the Congress government, Laxman Savadi, Congress MLA for Athani constituency in Belagavi district, said he had no complaints against Ministers and all of them extended their support to him.
Mr. Savadi, who quit the BJP and joined the Congress on the eve of the 2023 Assembly polls, on Monday met AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala at the party office here and gave various suggestions to strengthen the party’s organisation in Belagavi district.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the MLA said Mr. Surjewala has been seeking legislators’ views on development works in the constituency, Ministers’ cooperation in implementing development works, and the party’s organisation in the district to prepare for the 2028 Assembly polls.
Mr. Savadi said: “I neither have a cold war nor a hot war with Ministers. All Ministers are cooperating with me and my relations with them are good”.
Mr. Savadi’s response assumes significance in the wake of many legislators publicly levelling charges against Ministers for not respecting them, and denying funds for development works in their constituencies.
Meanwhile, Mr. Surjewala continued his meetings with MLAs of Kalaburagi and Belagavi divisions as part of a performance review. He will continue to gather information from ruling party legislators for the next two days. Last week, he collected opinions about the State administration and implementation of guarantees from MLAs of Bengaluru and Mysuru divisions.
Asked about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah being made a member of the party’s OBC advisory panel, Mr. Savadi said the party included his name to use his expertise on the subject since he belonged to the OBC category. Just by inclusion of the name, one should not draw the conclusion that the Chief Minister was moving to national politics, he said.
