Five persons, including a minor, were arrested for assaulting and robbing a pedestrian in south-east Delhi’s New Friends Colony, in order to throw a birthday party for one of the accused, the police said on Monday.
The matter came to light when the police received a PCR call on Saturday night regarding a robbery near Royce Hotel on C.V. Raman Marg. The complainant, Shankar Rai, said that around 11.30 p.m., he was attacked by some men, who snatched his mobile phone and bag before fleeing the spot.
A case was registered local and the five accused — Dev, 28; Prince Kumar, 18; Manav, 19; Deepak, 18; and a minor. All five told the police that they no stable source of income and committed the robbery to arrange money to celebrate Deepak’s birthday.
The stolen mobile phone was recovered, an officer said.
Although Dev, Prince and Manav have no prior cases against them, Deepak, a class 9 dropout, has one previous case of criminal involvement, he added.
