A 19-year-old student succumbed on Wednesday to injuries which he sustained while bursting crackers during a funeral procession here on Tuesday. Police gave the name of the deceased as S. Daniel, who was a resident of Palakkarai here. He was a second year B.Com C.A student at Bishop Heber College in Tiruchi.
Police sources said Daniel was bursting crackers during the funeral procession of his friend on Tuesday afternoon when one of the crackers fell on him and burst. The incident occurred near the MGR statue in Sessions Court police station limits.
Daniel sustained injuries on his left hand, left side of stomach and face. He was admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi. Sources said Daniel died on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment. The Sessions Court Police have registered a case under section 194 of the BNSS, the sources added.
