A 33-year-old man was arrested by the cyber crimes wing of the Hyderabad police for creating and circulating sexually explicit and communally sensitive content on social media with the intent of provoking enmity between religious communities.

He was booked in Crime No. 1510/2025 under Section 67(A) of the Information Technology Act and Sections 196(1) and 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and has been remanded to judicial custody.

According to the police, the accused used artificial intelligence tools to generate morphed and sexually explicit images, remixing them with religious symbols and beliefs. The material, which carried derogatory and abusive remarks against one community, was then posted on platforms including Facebook and Instagram through fake accounts.

“The accused created fake profiles impersonating individuals from another faith. Through those accounts, he circulated content targeting his own community to mislead the public. His identity is being withheld as the matter is highly sensitive,” said Hyderabad cyber crimes ACP R.G Siva Maruthi.

The case was registered after the complainant came across disturbing material on August 23 while browsing social media platforms. The posts, police said, “were blasphemous and appeared to be deliberately intended to outrage the modesty of women from one community, incite hatred or provoke enmity between religious communities”. Around 1,500 people were following the accused’s fake accounts before the content was flagged.

Police have warned the public against believing or circulating inflammatory social media posts, stressing that the government is closely monitoring online activity. Citizens have been urged to report cybercrime by dialling 1930 or visiting the portal cybercrime.gov.in.
