A 25-year-old woman, who delivered a male child a few months ago, died following severe stomach pain at her house at Jajulabandha village of Koyyuru mandal in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district in the early hours of Thursday.

Marri Kavya (25) had been suffering from stomach pain since the last five days. Her husband, Kamesh, took her to the Downuru PHC and got her treated. However, she had a fresh bout of stomach pain around 11 p.m. on Wednesday night and passed away at around 2 a.m.

Her husband said that the ambulance could not come to their village due to lack of proper road.

The Tribal Welfare Department had sanctioned ₹1 crore for laying a road from Jajulabandha to Arla last year. The contractor had constructed a few culverts but did not complete the work, the villagers said.

The Anakapalli Collector had subsequently sanctioned ₹4 crore for laying a BT road from Arla to Pithrigedda.

The gravels laid as part of the road work were washed away during the rains. Mr. Kamesh and the villagers appealed to the authorities to ensure the early completion of the road.
