Four families were shifted to safer locations following the collapse of a well at Kommeri near Valayanad in Kozhikode district on Friday morning (July 11).

Fire and Rescue Services personnel from the Meenchanda station led the emergency evacuation. They said 30 persons, including senior citizens and children, were shifted from the spot.

The public well is located close to four houses in the area. The evacuation process was completed in the presence of senior Revenue officials and local body representatives.

Rescue personnel said the shifted families would not be able to occupy the houses before the field-level safety check and clearance by the Kozhikode Corporation authorities. The incident was also reported to the Geology department, they added.
