Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Saturday launched the ‘Government on Wheels’ campaign of the Delhi government by undertaking a 47-km-long inspection of the Outer Ring Road on a bus to understand the ground realities faced by commuters.
The initiative aims at shifting from closed-door reviews to on-site problem-solving.
Speaking during the inspection, Mr. Singh said that too often, officials sit in their offices and list out problems on paper without offering real solutions. “This is why the Delhi government has launched this new concept – bringing all departments together in one bus, on one road, at one time. When they [officials] see the reality, when they witness how citizens are suffering, then the solutions become immediate and actionable,” he said.
Sitting in the front seat of the bus with a microphone in hand, the Minister asked the officers accompanying him to take note of any pot-holes, bottlenecks, or missing signboards he noticed.
“By identifying encroachments, sanitation lapses, drainage issues, and infrastructure gaps directly on-site, officers are empowered to act swiftly, cutting through bureaucratic delays. The aim is to build a culture of solution-oriented governance where visible improvements replace paperwork and excuses,” he said.
Since the onset of the monsoon, the PWD, which maintains over 1,400 km of roads in Delhi, has been in the spotlight due to waterlogging complaints.
The Delhi government has sought ₹900 crore from the Central government under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund to upgrade the city’s road infrastructure.
