NEW DELHI
A 17-year-old boy drowned in a fountain pond inside a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) park in south Delhi’s New Friends Colony, the police said on Friday.
The incident came to light when the police received a PCR call on Wednesday, reporting the drowning of a boy in Ashoka Park.
“When officers reached the scene, they pulled the boy out of the water with the help of divers and rushed him to the Holy Family Hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said a senior police officer.
The deceased was identified as Salman, a resident of Kastbadda village in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. During the investigation, the police learnt that Salman had recently come from Meerut to visit his father, who lives in a rented house in Khizrabad. He had gone swimming.
“It appears that the boy jumped into the pond and drowned. When police arrived at the spot, the pond was found to be enclosed with iron railings on all sides,” the officer said, adding that a case has been registered under Section 194 (death under suspicious circumstances) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
