In a bid to enhance law enforcement and instil a sense of security among citizens, the Kalaburagi city police have launched ‘Mane Manege Police’ – door-to-door initiative to strengthen policing at the grassroots level.
Police Commissioner Sharanappa S. Dhage said that as part of the campaign, police officials from every station would visit houses within their respective jurisdiction to gather first-hand information about law-and-order issues.
Dr. Dhage explained that the campaign aims to collect detailed data of residents in each ward and suspicious activities happening in and around the areas. Based on the information, the police will make a database of people with suspicious behavior and a criminal background and they will be kept under surveillance.
Dr. Dhage said that though the police have repeatedly advised the public about installation of CCTV cameras for safety, the norms were ignored.
“We do not want to create a society scared of the police, but want to emphasise trust and positive relationship between the police and the public and to create people-friendly police stations,” Dr. Dhage expressed.
Madivalappa, Assistant Commissioner of Police for Cyber Crime, Economic Offences and Narcotics (CEN), gave a presentation on cybercrimes and explained how malware distribution, hacking, extortion, and various forms of frauds are committed.
He advised the public to be cautious of suspicious emails and links, monitoring unusual activity of accounts, using strong passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, and keeping software of computer and mobile phones updated to protect mobile and bank accounts from fraudsters.
During the interaction, members of the public said that police personnel need an attitudinal change in their behavior pattern, and should also avoid using improper language towards the public.
They said implementing people-friendly policing at the ground level is crucial for fostering trust and cooperation.
