Chennai city police arrested four suspects who were allegedly involved in the murder of a 21-year-old youth who was invited to a secluded spot on the pretext of cutting a cake to celebrate his birthday, in Kodungaiyur.
The victim was K. Sankar (21), a college dropout whose father Kumar is a flower vendor in M.K.B. Nagar. A year ago, he was arrested and remanded to judicial custody for stabbing one of his friends as he was displeased with the latter who was in love with his sister.
On his birthday on Saturday (June 12, 2025), one of his friends invited him to celebrate it with them. He was taken by his friends to a secluded place at a lane in Kodungaiyur. The suspects then attacked him with knives and fled the scene leaving him dead in a pool of blood. The next morning, his mother was informed about his death.
Police recovered the body and conducted an investigation. Police suspect that he was murdered by his old friends due to previous enmity. While four suspects were arrested, efforts are on to trace and arrest the remaining suspects, said police.
