Sivaganga district Vigilance and Anti-Corruption unit seeks details on absconding accused

Vigilance and Anti-Corruption unit of Sivaganga district has sought details regarding the whereabouts of an accused woman officer, M. Chinna Ponnu, who has failed to appear before the court for the last two years in connection with a 2014 bribery case registered under Prevention of Corruption Act.

In a statement, its Deputy Superintendent of Police said that the accused who was the rural welfare officer in S. Pudur Panchayat Union was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹1,000 as bribe from a woman for giving assistance under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage Assistance Scheme in 2014.

The woman was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

The DVAC had filed a chargesheet against the accused before the Special Court for Trial of Cases under Prevention of Corruption Act.

Meanwhile, the woman accused who was let off on conditional bail had been absconding and has not attended court hearings for the last two years.

The Court has given ultimatum to Chinnaponnu to appear before the court by July 21.

Anyone who has knowledge about the whereabouts of the absconding accused can alert the office of DSP, DVAC over 04575-240222, the statement said.
