Rajya Sabha MP and Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) State vice-president C. Sadanandan on Tuesday (September 2) alleged that the State government lacks sincerity in organising the Sabarimala Global Ayyappa Sangamam.
Speaking at a meet-the-press programme at Kannur Press Club, he said cases registered against those who protested the women’s entry into the shrine should have been withdrawn if the government was genuine in its stance.
He noted that cases related to the Citizenship Amendment Act were withdrawn swiftly, but similar action was not taken in the Sabarimala matter.
While welcoming the Travancore Devaswom Board’s decision to appeal in court against women’s entry, he questioned why the government continued to harm its own sympathisers.
He also recalled incidents in which even devotees preparing for pilgrimage were expelled from political parties.
On development issues, the MP stressed that projects such as bridges, roads, and Kannur airport expansion will benefit the entire district and everyone should rise above party politics to support such initiatives.
He said he had directly approached the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to grant point-of-call status to the airport and would seek the support of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Mr. Sadanand also promised to look into complaints regarding private land leases for railway development.
“My MP post is the result of sacrifices of many. I will work for a developed India as envisioned by the Prime Minister,” he said, adding that the President had nominated him constitutionally and that those he challenging it in court were defaming the office of the President.
