Cybercrime police register FIR against members of notorious gang for harassing police informer

The cybercrime police have registered an FIR against members of notorious gang for harassing a 44-year-old police informer online to take revenge against him. According to the complaint, the accused had morphed the videos and photos of the victim’s sisters and cousins in an objectionable way and posted it on social media to harass him.

According to the complainant, he was helping the police with the gang members’ criminal activities for the last one decade. He was also rewarded by the police for helping them bust the gang. The gang members realised that he was instrumental and wanted to take revenge.

The accused even sent him the social media links to his WhatsApp account to harass him mentally. The victim approached the police initially who refused to help him following which he approached the court with a private complaint. The complainant requested the police to take legal action and delete obscene posts put by the accused to demean his family members.

Based on the court’s direction the police have registered a case against unknown people charging them under section 67 ( publication or transmission of obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act, 2000.
