Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran on Wednesday accused the ruling DMK of misusing public funds to promote its party activities, particularly through Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s recent outreach initiative Ungaludan Stalin. He alleged that the programme was being implemented using State government’s resources and senior bureaucrats aimed at promoting Mr. Stalin.
“The DMK is growing its party using taxpayers’ money. How can senior IAS officials operate like party propaganda secretaries? In any other context, they would have been expected to resign from service,” he charged.
Earlier, Mr. Nagenthran chaired the BJP’s Tiruchi urban district-level preparatory meeting ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Tamil Nadu, beginning July 27. Drawing a historical parallel, Mr. Nagenthran said, “Just as Emperor Rajendra Chola expanded his influence across regions, Mr. Modi is asserting India’s leadership on the global stage. Grand preparations are under way to welcome him.”
Criticising the State government, Mr. Nagenthran said drug abuse, including the spread of synthetic substances like cocaine, had intensified across Tamil Nadu. “Narcotics are being sold even near schools and colleges,” he alleged.
About AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran’s statement earlier in the day that NDA would come to power in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Nagenthran responded: “The DMK has no place in this country. Mr. Dhinakaran may have expressed a personal view. If it differs from our stance, we will respond accordingly,” he said.
