A 17-year-old boy from Parnattivilai near Colachel collapsed and died due to breathlessness on Thursday morning.

According to a police official, the deceased has been identified as N. Saktheeswar, who was about to begin college this year. “His parents woke him early in the morning to take part in the Aadi Amavasai ritual, during which he experienced breathlessness and collapsed,” said the police.

He was initially rushed to a private hospital in Coalchel, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He was later sent to Government Medical College and Hospital in Asaripallam for post mortem examination.

The police official further noted that the boy had been following a strict diet to reduce weight, which may have contributed to the incident. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.

A case of unnatural death under section 194 BNSS has been registered at Colachel police station. Further investigations are underway.
