Light showers in several parts of Hyderabad on Friday (July 26, 2025) evening led to waterlogging and slow-moving traffic across major stretches of the city in the evening.
The congestion was compounded by the routine weekend rush, with long delays reported on several arterial roads in both Hyderabad and Cyberabad.
Officials from the Hyderabad Traffic Control Room reported an average delay of 5–6 minutes across busy junctions. Motorists commuting through stretches like Bible House, Chilkalguda Junction, Alugaddabavi, Mettuguda, Masab Tank and the Telangana Bhavan road in Banjara Hills faced slowdowns due to accumulated water on the roads.
“Due to a steady drizzle and waterlogging, those travelling at moderate speeds of 40 kmph had to slow down to 20 kmph because of slippery surfaces and poor visibility. There were no complete traffic jams, but the movement was sluggish,” a traffic officer said.
In the Cyberabad region, roads leading to and from Madhapur, Raidurgam, and Gachibowli, particularly the Hitec City stretch from IKEA to Kukatpally, witnessed prolonged snarls.
Officials noted that Friday evenings typically see increased volumes as people begin weekend travel while IT employees head back to Hyderabad.
