Second year MBBS student dies by suicide at RIMS Adilabad, inquiry underway

A second-year MBBS student at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad, Telangana died by suicide on Wednesday (July 30, 2025).

The student was identified as 19-year-old Sahil Choudhary from Jaipur, Rajasthan. His classmates, concerned after he failed to respond for a prolonged period, broke open the door of hostel room and found him hanging. . He was rushed to RIMS hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

According to Karunakar Rao, circle inspector of Adilabad II Town Police Station, Sahil was alone at the time of the incident. “The exact cause for taking the extreme step is yet to be established. We are conducting a detailed investigation and have informed his parents, who are currently on their way to Adilabad from Rajasthan,” he said.

The college administration has constituted an internal inquiry committee. “We are speaking to students and faculty members to understand the circumstances that may have led to this incident,” said Rathod Jaisingh, director of RIMS Adilabad.
