The Coimbatore City Police have invoked provisions of the Goondas Act against five persons, who had been arrested by the Saravanampatti police in different cases.

The police said R. Madhankannan, 37, of Ramalingam Road (East) at R.S. Puram, B. Arivazhagan, 30, of Dindigul district, and K. Gopinath, 34, of Arasaradi in Madurai, were arrested for operating flesh trade on the pretext of running spas in rented houses in Coimbatore. Despite having booked flesh trade multiple times, the trio continued with the same crime after getting bail.

Based on the recommendation of the Saravanampatti inspector and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar imposed the provisions of Goondas Act on them on August 2.

The fourth detainee has been identified as S. Arunkumar, 29, of Nallampalayam at Ganapathy in the city. The Saravanampatti police arrested Arunkumar and four others for murdering S. Hemanth, 25, of Tiruppur in front of a restaurant on Thudiyalur – Saravanampatti Road on July 4. The City Police Commissioner invoked provisions of the Goondas Act against him on August 3.

The police said J. Suji Mohan, 29, of Kannappa Nagar at Rathinapuri, who was detained under Goondas Act on August 2, had been involved in multiple crimes. The Saravanampatti police arrested him recently after he continued to indulge in crimes, after being granted bail in other cases, said the police.
