Rail users association seeks amenities at Kumbakonam railway station

The Thanjavur District Railway Users’ Association has submitted to Southern Railway a list of amenities identified by rail users that are to be revived/created at Kumbakonam railway station, which is to be redeveloped at a cost of ̥₹99 crore.

In a memorandum addressed to Additional General Manager of Southern Railway Kaushal Kishore, the association said that passengers prefer the creation or re-establishment of certain facilities as part of the Station Redevelopment Work project.

Some important works identified are provision of shelters in all platforms, revival of emergency medical facility, provision of digital locker facility, erection of digital train arrival and departure information board outside the concourse, provision of digital coach position indicators and public announcement system in all platforms, provision of lifts/escalators to reach island platforms, setting up of an information counter near the booking office and re-establishment of coach watering facility.
