The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to offer concessions in procedures for the allocation of houses and land to the extremely poor families in municipalities and grama panchayats with urban characteristics.
The area of land eligible for financial assistance for the construction of houses will be reduced from three cents to two cents. This will be subject to the condition that construction is possible as per the requirements set out in the Building Rules. Extremely poor families will also be eligible for an additional assistance of â‚ą2 lakh over and above the assistance given in instances where revenue or other land is not available for construction. The beneficiaries cannot transfer the house and land for 12 years.
