Overnight showers in Bengaluru led to 12 tree falling and causing water-logging at several junctions, leading to traffic snarls that left early morning commuters frustrated on August 7.
According to BBMP data, the East and Mahadevapura zones recorded three tree falls each, followed by two each in the R.R. Nagar and South zones, and one each in the West and Yelahanka zones. K.R. Puram alone witnessed three incidents of tree falls. However, no casualties were reported. Of the 12 uprooted trees, the BBMP has cleared four, while work is underway at eight locations, according to officials.
In addition to tree falls, 18 incidents of tree branches snapping were reported. Clearing operations are ongoing at seven locations to remove the fallen branches.
Waterlogging was reported on the Ramamurthy Nagar–Kasturi Nagar service road, Vaddarapalya Road towards Hennur, Vaddarapalya Road towards Geddalahalli, Nagavara Road towards Veerannapalya, and TC Palya junction.
A police officer deputed in east Bengaluru said that the traffic snarls were largely due to the usual weekday peak-hour congestion and were less related to the rain. Many junctions were cleared by early morning, and traffic was not significantly affected, according to the officer.
