T.N. CM Stalin leads rally to mark death anniversary of Karunanidhi; pays tributes to late M.S. Swaminathan

On the death anniversary of DMK patriarch and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin led a rally to his memorial and paid floral tributes at the Kalaignar Memorial at Anna Square on the Marina beachfront in Chennai on Thursday (August 7, 2025).

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Ministers, MPs, and legislators took part in the rally and paid their respects. The leaders also paid floral tributes at the memorial of DMK founder and former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai, located adjacent to the memorial of Karunanidhi. In a social media post, Mr. Stalin pledged to lead Tamil Nadu into excellence in the path laid down by Karunanidhi.

On the occasion of the birth centenary celebrations of eminent agriculture scientist ‘Bharat Ratna’ M.S. Swaminathan on Thursday, Mr. Stalin paid tributes to him in a social media post. He recalled that Karunanidhi had sanctioned land for establishing the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation and had, along with then President K.R. Narayanan, inaugurated the J.R.D. Tata Ecotechnology Centre.

Mr. Stalin also recalled that the DMK government named a wetland park in Porur and an agriculture college in Thanjavur district after the late scientist. He also recalled having instituted an award after Swaminathan. He called upon students to follow in the footsteps of the late scientist in serving society. He also extended his greetings to MSSRF chair Dr. Soumya Swaminathan.
