The demolition of the Brodipet Road Over Bridge (ROB) started in the early hours of Saturday (August 09) as part of its planned reconstruction, prompting a full suspension of traffic on the stretch. To ease congestion during the works, educational institutions in the city have been asked to operate in two shifts, ‘A’ shift from 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and ‘B’ shift from 9.15 a.m. to 4.45 p.m.
Guntur Municipal Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu announced the decision during a coordination meeting with representatives of schools and colleges, education department officials, GMC staff, and traffic police. He said that as the demolition is the first phase of the reconstruction, coordinated measures with schools will help prevent traffic chaos.
Traffic police have already cleared encroachments on alternate routes, he added, noting that proceedings on revised school timings will be issued soon. Adjustments may be made after monitoring the situation for a few days.
The Commissioner also urged active participation in the upcoming Har Ghar Tiranga campaign from August 13 to 15. Educational institutions have been asked to organise painting, essay writing, elocution, and rangoli competitions on the theme, set up selfie points, and ensure the hoisting of plastic-free national flags on campuses, public buildings, and houses.
Deputy Commissioner Ch. Srinivas, City Planner Rambabu, in-charge SE Sundararami Reddy, Traffic SI Ashok Kumar, Manager Balaji Basha, and education department officials were present.
