The Ernakulam Children’s Park was handed over to the Ernakulam District Child Welfare Committee on Saturday.
An order issued by Rajesh V.S., Assistant Director-1, Office of the Joint Director, Department of Local Self-Governments, stated that the district child welfare committee would have the power to govern and administer the park. It was done as per an order issued by the District Collector on July 23, 2025.
A release issued by the committee said that the government-owned park had been administered by an independent organisation based in Ernakulam for long. There have been allegations of poor upkeep and financial irregularities in the management of the park.
The State Council for Child Welfare had approached the Kerala High Court seeking an order to transfer the park to the District Child Welfare Committee. “The park has been transferred to the district child welfare committee based on an interim order issued by the High Court,” it said.
G.L. Arun Gopi, general secretary of the State council, said that a children’s theatre and care centre would be set up at the park within a month.
