Six persons, including the owner of a restobar where the fatal assault on a 22-year-old man occurred in the wee hours of Sunday (August 10, 2025) in Puducherry, have been arrested by the territorial police.

The owner, Rajkumar, a resident of Angalamman Nagar in Muthialpet, and five of his staff have been accused of fatally assaulting Moshik Shanmugapriyan and injuring his friend Sajan, following a verbal argument inside OMG Pub on Mission Street in the Union Territory (UT). A special team has been formed to nab five more accused involved in the murder of the youth, a release from the police said.

The arrested persons were produced before the magistrate on Monday (August 11) night and remanded in judicial custody, the police said.

The murder had caused a stir in the UT, with the Opposition Congress hitting the streets, accusing the AINRC-BJP government of dragging its feet in the arrest of the “real” accused involved in the murder and highlighting flagrant violations in the functioning of restobars in Puducherry.
