
Yallamma temple staff kept currency notes from the donation box out in the open to dry, at Saundatti in Belagavi district of Karnataka on August 12, 2025. The donation box was submerged following heavy rains in the region.

Water entered the Yallamma temple in Saundatti following heavy rains in Belagavi district of Karnataka in the last few days. The hundi (donation box) that contained currency, notes, coins and jewellery was submerged.
On August 12, officials from the temple management and Revenue Department opened the safe and kept the contents out to dry.
Bank notes were kept in the open all around the temple to dry. All the bank notes were covered in saffron and vermilion.
Workers were engaged in cleaning the temple by removing puddles of water. Security guards were monitoring the queue of devotees to ensure that pilgrims did not suffer any inconvenience.

The hundi was opened in the presence of officials from the Endowment Department, tahsildar and the Assistant Commissioner’s offices, and the temple development authority.
During the last counting in April, the temple had received donations amounting to ₹3. 81 crore, comprising ₹3.39 crore in cash, gold ornaments worth ₹32.94 lakh, and silver ornaments worth ₹9.79 lakh.
