The Tiruppur City Muncipal Corporation will be conducting an all-party meeting on Thursday, August 14, 2025, to find a solution to continuous accumulation of mixed waste on the roadsides over the last couple of weeks.
Presence of a garbage heap in front of the Government School at Anuperpalayam in the city caused consternation among parents on Monday. The local body had covered the wastes in view of the visit of Health Minister Ma. Subramanian.
The city corporation is left with no scope to dispose off its garbage as the public in the rural surroundings are putting up stiff resistance to the civic body’s move to utilise abandoned stone quarries for the purpose.
There have been discussions among the people in recent days to adopt resolutions in the Grama Sabha meetings on August 15 against permitting the Tiruppur Corporation to utilise abandoned quarries or any vacant space.
Over 700 tonnes of mixed waste gets generated every day by the city corporation, and the approval of the State Government for the Bio-CNG plant for processing 200 tonnes of wet wastes has brought in some solace.
Left with no option, the Corporation is storing the mixed waste at secondary points temporarily.
The civic body is also in talks with private entities for supplying 200 tonnes of dry wastes free of cost for processing.
The challenge in the short-term will be to handle the remaining 300 tonnes of mixed waste.
A workable solution will be arrived at during the all-party meeting involving participation of MLAs and MPs representing constituencies in Tiruppur district, official sources said.
