Home Minister G. Parameshwara said on Tuesday that there is no need to shift the women police station at Puttur in Dakshina Kannada to a new location in Puttur.

Replying to an unstarred question by Ashok Kumar Rai, MLA, Puttur, in the Legislative Assembly, the Home Minister said that the police station is centrally located near the Mahalingeshwara temple in the town. It is easily accessible to women, children, and other people in general for filing complaints and other purposes.

Since many devotees visit the temple the location of the station is ideal for maintaining law and order during annual fair and other days. In addition, its location is ideal for preventing crimes and security purposes.

The Minister said the land reserved for constructing a new police station stood at 0.08 acres against the requirement of two acres. There is a dearth of land for constructing the new station. Hence, there is no need to shift the station to the land reserved for constructing the new building.
