Sangareddy District Collector P. Pravinya on Wednesday directed officials to alert people living along the downstream of Singur Project as its crest gates could be lifted. As flood water could increase, precautions have to be taken so that fishermen do not venture out. Security has to be arranged in the night as well, she said.Â
Sangareddy was one of the districts under red alert (very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall) issued by India Meteorological Department for Wednesday. The alert was given to the district for Thursday too.

All government and private schools and colleges in the district are closed on Thursday, announced District Education Officer Venkateshwarulu.
The Collector held a meeting on the precautions to be taken in the wake of the rain forecast. Officials were directed to ensure that people do not go near lakes, ponds or water streams. Revenue and police department officials have to keep a watch on the levels in the water bodies. Houses in low-lying areas which are prone to flooding have to be identified, the Collector said.
In view of the heavy rain alert, the road leading to Mahbubsagar tank was closed by the police personnel in Sangareddy district.
