The Tamil Nadu Cauvery Farmers’ Protection Association has urged the State government to provide ₹20 lakh as compensation to the family of farmer M. Ganapathy, 74, who died of multiple injuries after being attacked by a wild boar at Uthamarseeli near Tiruchi on August 11.
Ganapathy was walking to his plantain grove at Uthamarseeli when he was attacked by a wild boar. Ganapathy sustained severe injuries on his right thigh, knees, and hip and was admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi where he died on August 13 evening. The Kollidam police have registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS.
In a statement, association secretary Swamimalai Vimalanathan said the Madhya Pradesh government had been paying ₹20 lakh as compensation to farmers and tribal people who died in attacks by wild animals. The Tamil Nadu government should provide the same compensation amount to such victims, he added.
