Karimnagar joined the nation in celebrating India’s 79th Independence Day in a novel way on Friday.

Collector Pamela Satpathy led a group of children with hearing impairment perform national anthem Jana Gana Mana in Indian sign language at the main Independence Day ceremony held at the police parade grounds in Karimnagar.

The patriotic-themed event left the audience spellbound, fostering patriotic spirit and spreading the message of national pride and unity. A host of district officials also took part in the event.

In an initiative to promote Indian Sign Language (ISL) as a tool for inclusive communication, the district administration recently conducted training sessions in the basics of ISL for district officials.

The initiative seeks to help the hearing-impaired persons to effectively access government welfare schemes, avail of the opportunities available to them and enable them reach their full potential.
