Independence Day celebrations were marked with pomp and gaiety here at the district stadium complex on Friday. The air was rent with patriotic fervour as the tricolour was unfurled to the rendition of the national anthem.

Collector C. Dinesh Kumar hoisted the national flag in the presence of Superintendent of Police P. Thangadurai and accepted the guard of honour.

Over 1240 students from seven schools showcased cultural programmes.

The day witnessed recognition of service excellence of 42 police personnel; and 480 government staff.

Welfare schemes to the tune of ₹57.52 lakhs was also disbursed to 39 beneficiaries on the occasion.

Collector R. Sadheesh unfurled the tricolour at the district stadium in Dharmapuri. Mr. Sadheesh also released balloons adding to the hues of patriotism that was seen around at the venue.

T. Senthil Kumar, Inspector General of Police, West Zone; and Superintendent of Police S.S. Maheshwaran participated.

Earlier, the Collector felicitated the freedom fighters and also handed over service excellence awards to those in the police departments and the government staff.
