Five devotees died and four others were injured after a chariot in the Sri Krishna Shobha Yatra came into contact with an overhead electric wire in RTC Colony, Ramanthapur, late on Sunday (August 17, 2025).
The deceased were identified as Krishna alias Diamond Yadav, 21, Srikanth Reddy, 35, Suresh Yadav, 34, Rudra Vikas, 39 and Rajendra Reddy, 45, all residents of Old Ramanthapur area.
“They were heading towards Sri Krishna temple in the locality from their neighbourhood and were supposed to head back. While they were on their way to the temple, their vehicle broke down. They decided to carry the chariot manually when the mishap occurred, around 200 metres from the temple,” said the Inspector of Uppal police, K. Bhaskar.
The mishap was reported around midnight during a Krishna Janmashtami procession being carried out by locals. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, where five were declared dead on arrival.
Their bodies were later shifted to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination, while the others remain under treatment.
The Uppal police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Further details are awaited.
