Nearly 12 lakh women make use of free bus travel scheme in first 30 hours in Andhra Pradesh

There has been good response to free bus travel scheme — Stree Shakti — from women across the State, according to a press release from the A.P. Transport department.

In the first 30 hours of implementation of the scheme, launched by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on August 15, around 12 lakh women availed of the scheme on the five categories of APSRTC buses, according to the release.

After reviewing the implementation of the scheme on Monday (August 18), the Chief Minister instructed officials to allow free travel facility on ghat routes also. Meanwhile, the APSRTC officials are making efforts to simplify the identification process for women passengers.
